The film adaptation of [amazon_link id="0307745317" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]The Woman in Black[/amazon_link] by Susan Hill has given a shot of newfound interest to the gothic genre. The classic haunted house that contains dramas of the old inhabitants played against the struggles of contemporary guests will likely always find an audience. The film features Daniel Radcliffe in a role that suits him well, post Harry Potter. If you enjoy the book and film, perhaps you might desire to take a journey to Black Lake.

Alexandre Desplat is a prolific French composer who has won dozens of awards for nearly 100 films for which he has provided sound track. As composer for Twilight New Moon and the newly released Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, he has established himself as a preeminent composer for the contemporary gothic genre of movie that is finding a resurgence in popularity.

The lush dark tones are both sensual and mysterious and add mood, atmosphere and a sense of urgent foreboding  that further deepens and illuminates struggles of characters against the force of nature and an underworld of power and dark beauty that cannot be escaped.

I have begun work on a new novel titled "The Chamber of Curiosities" that features a love story between a charismatic freak show giant and a beautiful young trapeze artist. The story is a romantic suspense set in an mysterious land on the cusp of industrial revolution. For adult  fans of novels that incorporate elements of fantasy with gothic realism, such as Harry Potter and Twilight, the book will offer a provocative look into the world of a unique carnival, and of a passionate love that is as innocent and pure as it is fierce and determined to prevail.
